Londis warmly welcomes new member as Londis Cleaboy opens!

Feb 21, 2013

ADM Londis plc is delighted to announce the opening of Londis Cleaboy, Waterford.  The store, formerly Freshway, Cleaboy Shopping Centre is owned by the Jephson family who also own the renowned Ardkeen Quality Food Store in Waterford.  The newly refurbished and redeveloped store, which secures local employment for over twenty people, includes a superb new hot & cold deli, a juice bar, premium coffee offering, fantastic selection of beers and wines and a value driven grocery offering.

Commenting on the store opening, Stephen O’Riordan, Londis Chief Executive said: “As one of Ireland’s most successful independent retailers, we are delighted to welcome the Jephson family and Londis Cleaboy to the Group.  As the only group in Ireland ‘owned by retailers for retailers’, our number one priority is to pass savings back to our retailers and to invest in margin enhancing initiatives on behalf of Londis retailers.  Our recent investment in a brand new Centralised Chill facility highlights this commitment and it is as a result of this and other investments, which has enabled us to attract stores such as Londis Cleaboy.  I am delighted to warmly welcome Kevin and Colin Jephson, together with John Enright, Cleaboy Store Manager and the full team in Londis Cleaboy to the Londis Group. We look forward to working closely with the team to ensure the store becomes a very successful and vibrant addition to the local Cleaboy community.”

Kevin Jephson who, together with his family, own Londis Cleaboy explained the Group’s choice of Londis as symbol group partner commenting that ‘given the margin challenges that face independent retailers, it was imperative that we chose a symbol partner who was best positioned to support and grow our margin.  As Londis is overseen by its retailers, I felt no other group could give me the same reassurances in terms of lower prices and margin enhancing initiatives.  To date, the support the team in Londis has offered Londis Cleaboy has been excellent and I look forward to working together with Londis to bring the store to a new place competitively.”

The store was officially opened on Saturday 2nd February with local radio station WLR broadcasting live from the car park and family fun including giveaways and face painting.  Speaking at the launch, John Enright, General Manager of Londis Cleaboy noted that the redevelopment of the store ‘represents a significant investment and vote of confidence in the Cleaboy area.  We are extremely happy to be able to continue to serve the neighbourhood of which we have been a part for over 23 years.  With Londis we will bring a higher level of customer service, a vastly enhanced value offering and a vibrant product range to our consumers”.
