June 2011 - Londis, the Irish Grocery symbol group today launched an energy saving initiative to its retail network across Ireland. The Green Scheme programme, delivered by energy specialists Crowley Carbon will save ADM Londis retailers an average of 15% on their current energy costs estimated to be approx €35,000 per annum.
Indeed in many cases, savings could be significantly higher than 15% depending on a retailer’s past focus on energy conservation in store. Aside from the significant financial costs savings for Londis retailers, the Green Scheme initiative will also have a considerable positive impact for the environment reducing the individual carbon footprint of Londis stores. Crowley Carbon expect that at least 50 Londis retailers will carry out energy efficiency work in the first 12 months and if each of these were to reduce their energy bills by 100,000 kWhours or 50 tonnes of Co2 per annum it would be equivalent to taking 250 cars off Irish roads.
Speaking on the launch of the initiative, Robert Galster, Project Manager, ADM Londis said, “We are delighted to launch the Green Scheme to our network of retailers across Ireland. Echoing the Coop ethos of our Business we are very conscious of the financial pressures our retailers are faced with and believe that the opportunity to reduce energy costs by on average 15% per store, allied to the positivity of a reduction in carbon footprint will be met with significant interest amongst our retailer members. Indeed 35 retailers have already signed up pre-launch.”
Energy reduction specialists Crowley Carbon were selected by ADM Londis following a competitive tender process. The company offers a complete energy efficiency retrofit solution for retailers and has products and technologies that can treat all of a store’s energy users. The Green Scheme which is being endorsed by the Londis Group represents an investment of approximately €12,000 per retailer which Crowley Carbon estimates will be recouped in energy savings within two years resulting in significant long term savings for the retailer.
Explaining how the Green Scheme initiative will work, Ray Lucy, Area Sales Manager, Crowley Carbon said, “There are many areas within stores where energy can be wasted. Our team will go to stores and carry out an audit based on current energy use. All elements will be analyzed including lighting, fridges, heating systems, ovens and hot counters. Following this we will install individual solutions per store and demonstrate how these lead to a reduction in energy usage having significant benefit to a store’s bottom line and of course the environment.”
